Art historian, critic and biographer Frances Spalding has produced an excellent and meticulously researched account of the Pipers' life together.  From their home at Fawley Bottom they exercised enormous influence on British art, music and literature. She tells how this inspirational couple championed the avant garde while still retaining a deep affection for English character and place.
