We Work in the Dark
‘We work in the dark – we do what we can – we give what we have’ Henry James
In the wake of the EU Referendum, this exhibition, featuring works by Alice Anderson, Phil Illingworth and Evy Jokhova, takes ideas from The Europeans, a novel by Rye author Henry James, on the 100th anniversary of his death. James’s novel explores the relationship between the importance of restrained good manners and liberated exuberance.
This group of contemporary European artists investigates these ideas within their work and raises questions about the ways in which we navigate and understand the modern world.
The exhibition runs from 2nd September – 1st October and forms part of the ROOT1066 International Festival of Contemporary Arts.
